What Are Dental Implants?
Safe, effective and long-lasting dental implants
A Dental implant is a small, screw-like post made of biocompatible material that’s placed directly into your jawbone, where your natural tooth root used to be. Over time, the implant integrates with the bone, creating a secure foundation for a custom-made crown, giving you a tooth that looks, feels and works just like the real thing.
What to expect
Our dental implant process
It’s important to note that while this outlines the common stages, the exact process can vary slightly depending on your individual circumstances.
Building the Foundation (Implant Placement & Healing)
Your journey begins with the careful placement of the implant post directly into your jawbone during a minor surgical procedure. This step creates the new “root” for your tooth. In many cases, the implant can be placed at the same time of the tooth extraction (immediate implant). Sometimes bone or gum grafting is required at this stage.

After placement of the implant, there is usually a 3-4 month period where it needs to heal. During this time, your jawbone naturally grows around and fuses with the implant.
Uncovering and testing the implant
Once the implant has fully integrated with the bone, a minor second surgery may be performed to expose the top of the implant (second stage surgery). A small connector piece, called an abutment, is then attached to the implant. This abutment will extend just above the gum line and serve as the attachment point for your new tooth.
Crown/Prosthetic Attachment
After the abutment is in place and the gums around it have healed which usually takes approx. 3 weeks, you will then be referred back to your dentist to get your custom designed tooth.
Finally, this artificial tooth is securely attached to the abutment, completing your smile.

Frequently asked questions
Your dental implants questions answered.
How do dental implants work?
Dental implants are a popular and effective solution for replacing missing teeth. They are small biocompatible posts that are placed directly into your jawbone, where your tooth’s root would normally be.
Once the implant integrates with your bone, a custom-made crown is placed on top to restore your tooth’s natural appearance and function. Implants look, feel, and function just like real teeth, making them a long-lasting option for people who want to regain their smile and chewing ability.
The crown will be placed by your referred Dentist.
What payment options do you offer?
We understand that surgery is a significant investment which is why we offer flexible payment options to help make your treatment more accessible. To make treatment more accessible, we offer Afterpay as our exclusive payment plan option, allowing you to split your cost into manageable instalments.
NOTE: For treatments under local anaesthetic, payment is due on the day of your procedure and for treatments involving IV sedation or general anaesthesia, payment is required 7 days before your appointment.
What can I expect during a consultation?
The dental implant procedure is completed in a few key stages, each designed to ensure the best possible outcome for your smile:
Initial Consultation and Planning: During your first visit, we’ll evaluate your overall health and dental condition to ensure implants are the right solution for you. We use advanced diagnostic tools, such as X-rays or CT scans, to assess your bone structure and plan the placement of the implant precisely. A personalised treatment plan will be created, which may include additional procedures like bone grafting if necessary.
Implant Placement Surgery: The procedure is typically done under local anaesthesia, ensuring you’re comfortable throughout. An incision is made in the gum to expose the bone, and a small hole is drilled where the implant post will be placed. The implant is carefully inserted into the bone, and the gum is then closed around it. In some cases, stitches are used to aid healing.
Osseointegration (The Healing Phase) After the implant is placed, it needs time to fuse with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. This typically takes 3 to 6 months. During this time, your gums will heal around the implant. A temporary denture may be placed over the implant site for cosmetic reasons, if needed, while you heal.
Crown Placement: Once the implant has fully integrated with the bone, a small connector piece called is attached to the implant and a custom-made crown is to restore your tooth’s natural appearance and function, completing the procedure and giving you a beautiful, fully functional smile.
